September marks the five-year anniversary for the Fitzgibbon Chiropractic Clinic, which opened Sept. 6, 2016. Dr. Kylie Clemons has provided pain relief through chiropractic care for the entirety of that time, building relationships with moms-to-be, area athletes, men, women and children as young as newborns. The Fitzgibbon Chiropractic Clinic is now located alongside Fitzgibbon Orthopedic and Sports Medicine on the second floor of Fitzgibbon Hospital.
One of the reasons why chiropractic care is integrated into Fitzgibbon Hospital is because insurance companies often want to pursue less invasive treatments before authorizing surgery, said Clemons. It is very convenient for our patients, because they are able to schedule an appointment right away with Fitzgibbon Orthopedic and Sports Medicine, at the same desk, if their injury needs additional care that is outside of my scope of practice.
While there are other chiropractic clinics in the Marshall area, Dr. Clemons is the only female providing chiropractic care. As a new mom herself, her understanding of the issues pregnant women face helps her to provide care to many women who are referred from Marshall Womens Care, as well as from other area womens clinics.
We provide chiropractic care to women right up until the time of birth, said Clemons. Chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to reduce labor times and helps the baby move into a better position for their eventual arrival.
Clemons also provides care to newborns who may have chiropractic issues following the birth experience. This can often lead to issues that affect the babys growth and development during their most formative time.
In addition to providing standard chiropractic care, Dr. Clemons is board certified in chiropractic sports medicine, which allows her to provide specialized care to athletes from local high school and collegiate sports teams. As part of this skillset, she provides free sports physicals to students from area school districts.
If I were at a sporting event and I needed to stabilize a spine for an athlete after an injury, I am qualified to perform this care, said Clemons.
In 2018, Fitzgibbon Hospital added MLS Laser Therapy to the offerings that Dr. Clemons is able to provide in her clinic. This deep heat therapy provides relief for the pain of a number of conditions that cause loss of mobility and productivity for people in pain as well for athletes who may have suffered a sport injury. Each treatment takes between three minutes and 10 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
This deep heat therapy works for conditions like bursitis, arthritis, plantar fasciitis in the soles of the feet, sprains and strains. It is always great to see someone begin to move their fingers again after suffering with arthritis in their hands following the MLS Laser Therapy treatment, for example, said Dr. Clemons. Collegiate athletes receive a discount on the MLS laser therapy service. However high school athletes typically dont receive MLS because we arent able to treat over a growth plate.
If you are in need of chiropractic care, MLS Laser Therapy, or are an athlete in a local school district needing a sports physical, Dr. Clemons is taking new patients. Call 660-831-3743 to make an appointment.
