Core Health Chiropractic plans to offer more services at bigger office

The practice started with a small, 200 square-foot space inside another business in 2016. About six years later, Core Health Chiropractic plans to soon open in its own building with significantly more room.

Presently based in Wyomissing, the husband-and-wife chiropractic team of Jason and Sarah Balthaser has purchased the former Greth Homes building in Bern Township at 1057 Van Reed Road. The home builder stopped completing custom home or remodeling projects in 2021 after being in business for 48 years.

Visible from Route 222 and near the exit with Route 183, Core Health’s newest location will have 6,600 square feet to work with.

Sarah Balthaser, who specializes in pediatric, prenatal and family care, said she and Jason, who specializes in extremities and sports rehab, first looked at the building last winter and purchased it in September. Renovations are underway and the goal is open on March 1. It’s an overall investment of $2 million that came with help from Tompkins VIST Bank and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

“We’re excited and we’re adding new services,” she said.

At its current location, a 1,500 square foot space at 320 Abington Drive, Core Health offers chiropractic care and massage therapy. A pelvic floor therapist started in September. The additional space will allow for pediatric occupational therapy, a nurse practitioner family practice, concussion based physical therapy and another pelvic floor therapist. Other services could be added in the future.

Another part of the plan is to double the practice’s staff to 20.

“(Pelvic floor therapy) is needed in Berks,” Sarah Balthaser said. “There are three pelvic floor therapists. This will be the fourth and we may add another. It’s a needed service. There’s a six-month wait list.”

The goal of adding a nurse practitioner is to build a wellness-family practice that encompasses all needs under one roof, she said.

It’s been quite a climb for the practice that started at Berks Elite Training in 2016 with the tiny space. The current office opened in 2017.

“We invest in the business instead of accruing profit,” Sarah Balthaser said.

Those investments are for the patients’ benefits, she said.

“We want people to get better and stay better and follow through with the care, not get re-injured and have to start with square one,” Sarah Balthaser said.
