Richardson chiropractor convicted of molesting pregnant patient, gets 10 years probation

A Dallas County jury Thursday sentenced a Richardson chiropractor to 10 years probation for molesting a patient who was 39 weeks pregnant.

Junaid Farooqui, 58, faced up to 20 years in prison for sexual assault. He must register as a sex offender.

Farooqui faces four more charges of sexual assault of patients and one charge of indecency with a child in connection with a 16-year-old patient, according to court records. Farooqui’s chiropractic license was suspended pending the outcome of the criminal cases. He also faces lawsuits from three former patients, including the pregnant woman.

She said she went to Farooqui’s practice in March 2016 seeking relief from sciatica pain. She was days away from giving birth. The Dallas Morning News does not typically identify victims of sexual assault.

Farooqui told her he needed to perform a cervical exam to see how dilated she was, according to the woman’s lawsuit. The lawsuit says Farooqui’s office had a table and stirrups like those in a gynecologist’s office and the nurse did not seem alarmed. The woman had not been to a chiropractor before so she did not know the standard procedure, according to her lawsuit.

He told her the baby was in the wrong position and he needed to conduct a “prenatal massage” to loosen her vaginal walls and move the baby into the correct place.

Farooqui rubbed the woman’s genitals, the lawsuit says. She said she asked him why. She said Farooqui tried to assure her he had done nothing wrong and left the room.
